In his most recent CD, “Welcome to Life,” Matt Maher explores the wonders and challenges of this life that God calls us to.

When I tried to find the new CD by Matt Maher titled Welcome To Life, I could not find it anywhere. I was listening to the CD around the house to get to know the songs and had driven around with it in the car. Yet, it wasn’t in any of those places. Then that evening I heard music coming from my 15 year-old son’s room. He was listening to “Void,” a song on the CD, with the volume almost all the way up. The song has a very modern, alternative-rock sound with cool electric guitar riffs. It's a song about having an empty feeling in your life and knowing that nothing in this world can fill it. It takes Jesus to plug up that hole. My son said he had heard me playing the CD and really liked the way it sounded. Maher has a very youthful, alternative sound, much like Greg Walton, Curtis Stephan, or Tom Booth.

The CD starts off with the title track, “Welcome To Life,” as Maher does a great take of the Beatles' “Magical Mystery Tour.” Sounding very Paul McCartney-ish in vocals, Maher wants us to hop on board the wonderful journey of life and know that it may be bumpy, but "the glorious Son" will help us and be our guide. Another rockin’ tune is “All Glory To God.” It's a classic song you’ve heard, done very electric! Great beat, and this could be played on contemporary radio. Maher switches to a slower ballad on “Jesus, My Everything,” a sweet song of devotion, asking Jesus to take us just as we are. Another ballad on the CD is “Set Me As A Seal,” in which Maher does a beautiful, slow duet with Jenny Pixler. This is followed by another deeply moving song of love called simply, “I Love You, Lord.” What more can you say? Giving an almost Middle Eastern sound is “Isaiah 61,” which tells of the mission of the afflicted. Maher has taken much of the text from this scripture and set it to an awesome blend of vocals and music. The last song on the CD is perfectly called “Lead Me Home.” What else could you think after being told, Welcome To Life, but to know we have a great reward after this life? Matt Maher has made a great CD. How many CDs have you found like this in a 15 year-old's room?

(This would be a great gift for someone who is graduating this year or a youth's birthday.)

Matt Maher so humble 1/1/2005 -

I belive this album is so awesome...I'm a thirty one year old and heard it from my cousin who is in life teen and ~wow ~ when I heard his first album I liked it so much but didn't know who it was. Then I heard that familiar voice and asked after hearing the whole cd...I was in such a wow!!! I recommend it to all my friends in and out of church. It's so awesome! 'Welcome to life' is such a great song making you feel so youthful...my everything - wow- that makes me cry cause he sings with so much emotion and humbleness. Ahhh, its so great. 'I love you Lord' wow to that also. 'Set me as a seal' - beautiful enough for weddings. The ENTIRE album is highly recomended. If you love someone so much can't find what to give them this is a true blessing. It's from a guy who still plays and sings and serves at his church in arizona. This was such a beautiful composed album I sent it to a soldier and his troops in Iraq for inspiration.

I heard of Matt Maher through Chris Tomlin's CD where he borrowed and redid Matt's "Your grace is enough". I loved that song and when I researched more of Matt's songs, I came across this album. My particular favorite is "Jericho". It's a song that to me is about the might of God that at His voice everyone shall bow down and worship him. It's a great worship song and I plan to use it in our congregational worship service. Keep up the good work Matt!

I've used the "End and the Beginning" album often when teaching for youth Mass preparation. What better way to reach kids but through their music, and what better way to explain our emotion when in the presence of the Word of God and in the presence of the Eucharist. Matt reaches us on how to fully particapate in the Mass. When looking for music to use in a program I am doing for college students in which we will take the Passover and show Christ at his last supper, I needed the right song to transition from Old Testement to the New. In the album "Welcome to life" I found "Isaiah 61" It is perfect. The first time I heard the song I didn't see the title, listening I thought it was about Christ on the mule coming into the city of Jerusalem for the Passover, people are waving palms rejoicing in their King. Prophetic prophecy? yeah

Matt's music is on the cutting edge of Contemporary Catholic music. "Welcome to Life" and "The End and the Begining" are both well written and well produced. It's exciting to hear this kind of music being put forth from a Catholic artist. Matt, I'm wearin' 'em out brother!

Songs From St. Tim's!! 10/19/2005 -
Reviewer: Tom Flaten - Indianapolis, IN

I first met Matt in Chandler on the opening night of a Life Teen Music conference.

By the time mass ended, my emotional high from "Your Grace Is Enough" led me straight to the gift shop to buy several copies of "Welcome To Life" CD's and Songbooks for our group back home in Indianapolis.

After mass, I got to watch Matt interact with the Teens at St. Tim's. It is obvious that they love and respect the man. He speaks their language and relates on their level - as adults (young ones).

We're rocking to the songs, the sound and the message "back home in Indiana". Thanks, Matt! Grace and peace be yours ....
