“These Are the Days” is the debut solo CD for singer/songwriter Barry Russo. It is a collection of energetic and uplifting pop/rock songs, full of catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics. Russo shares his thoughts and insights in the form of a very radio-friendly presentation. The main theme of “These Are the Days,” as the title suggests, is that of awakening, living life to the fullest, and striving to discover the purpose that God has for each of our lives. Russo readily admits that he writes from his own struggles and experiences, and his attempts to find this place of peace and determination. He says "I hope that through my music others can perhaps see themselves, understand themselves a bit better, and walk away with the same renewed sense of hope, optimism, and persistence that I have found in my journey."

The opening track, "Are You Listening," is clearly a song about searching. As the CD goes on, Russo begans to answer his own questions. Listeners will find tracks such as "It's Not Too Late," "These Are the Days," "Letting Go," and "While We've Got Today" to be very effective inspirational anthems - the kind that make them want to up the radio and take a long drive down an open highway. The two ballads of the CD, "A Matter of Time" and "I'll Always Remember," are equally inspiring and compelling. "A Matter of Time" urges the listener to keep holding on, as a better tomorrow is very often just around the corner. "I'll Always Remember" is a touching tribute that Russo wrote for his parents. "The Meaning of Love" deals with the age-old question about what love is, and delivers an answer that is grounded in the source of all love, Jesus.

The other songs deal with subjects such as relationships and purpose. The one big exception to all of the others is Russo's fun and quirky tribute to the 1980s, entitled "Child of the 80s." It is a stylistic parody of the music of that era, and contains a lyrical shopping list of all of the appropriate nostalgia.

Russo is currently employed in music ministry for St. Peter Church in Warwick, Rhode Island. Besides providing music for all parish masses, he also teaches music to the children of the parish school. He prepares them for the musical portion of the school liturgies, introducing them to both the latest contemporary Christian songs, as well as providing them with a well-rounded background of traditional Catholic liturgical repertoire.

As a Catholic artist venturing into the mainstream world of pop music, Russo truly hopes to deliver something positive in an industry so often filled with quite the opposite messages.

The best review I can give of Barry Russo‘s CD, These Are The Days, comes from the opening of the forth song, “It’s Not To Late.” You hear an old 50’s B-movie announcer’s voice that states, “This should be played at high volume, preferably in a residential area.” I couldn't agree more. Russo has made an exceptional CD that captures the Holy Spirit at work in our daily lives without getting too preachy. “These Are The Days” stands back and looks at the "big picture.” It's the mood that stays in the song “Letting Go.” It talks about how we feel when we let go and let God take over. We leave our sins and past behind. God is with us, so live for the moment--is the idea behind the poppy tune "While We Got Today.” In this song Russo sees an old man and wonders what life will be like when he is old, hoping he doesn't look back and laugh at himself for not taking the right path. Russo knows that you can always change your life as he states in the song “It’s Not Too Late.” Of course the song everyone will remember from the CD is the parody “Child Of The 80’s.” Russo remembers the innocence of his childhood by placing "bookmarks" in those memories of pop culture. “..When ET had not phoned home yet, and an actor was the president, when Karate Kid had learn to kick, those are times I really miss—I’m a child of the 80’s…”Russo sings in a Buggles/Flash and the Pan type of voice and inserts riffs from Devo, Van Halen, Aha and more. He hits the nail on the head with the lyric “Reality killed the video star...” as MTV is now nothing more than reality TV shows. All together These Are The Days sends a message from Barry Russo. Life goes by too quickly, so overcome your obstacles and live God’s gift to you to its fullest.

AT LAST!!!!!!!! 6/11/2005 -
Reviewer: GS - San Jose CA

Its great and amazing to hear a Catholic/Christain artist who talks about God without preaching the "halleluia" and "Praise the Lord" nonsense. You can talk about God and faith , but you dont have to play the preacher to bring people, especially youth, to think about the absence of Christ in their lives. GOD willing, Barry Russo will be heard by many souls.
