Once you hear Mary Donahue’s clear angelic voice and awesome melodies, you’ll want to keep listening! Her CD release “To Every Mother” has received rave reviews from Catholic families in particular who are looking for refreshing, uplifting messages. Her first track “One Family at a Time” was the catapult to appearing on Familyland Television Network. She had been commissioned to write a song for the MN Catholic Home Educators Conference whose 2003 theme was taken from Pope John Paul II’s encyclical “Familiaris Consortio.” It was just the right amount of inspiration Mary needed to pen the song, which states “God has entrusted us with His children and we are to train them in His truths.” Her children perform background vocals on three of the selections, one of them being a hilarious glimpse into family life at the Donahue home!! (Surprisingly enough to Mary, the kids asked her to “write them a script” so they’d know how to “fight”-it sounds just like she caught them at one of their bad moments!!) Initially, Mary started her project wanting to honor the Blessed Mother, who she believes was instrumental in leading her closer to Jesus. “To Every Mother” started as a tape cassette with 7 songs and has changed and grown to 12 songs on CD, 11 originals and 1 traditional hymn of the Church “Sing of Mary.”

The focus of the album on Mothers expanded to include mothers who adopt (“We Cherish You”) to mothers who have an aborted baby in heaven (“Never Be the Same”)and to “A Prayer of Mother Teresa,” a beautifully constructed song honoring this remarkable woman and “Mother” to the many sick and dying. There’s a touch of Indian drum (Shawn Kolles) and awesome acoustic guitar (Brad Nelson) to listen for on the song. Nelson also does a phenomenal job on guitar for “Never Be the Same” – it can’t be missed! “Rain Down” is a great worship song which follows “Never Be the Same,” encouraging a message of healing and hope. “Divine Mercy” is a song that also begs for healing and hope by praying the Divine Mercy Prayer. You’ll recognize the melody from the popular musical version she used by permission from the Marion Helpers and Maria Smetkiewicz. Mary also includes her popular communion song “One Body in the Lord,” published in her parish hymnal and another parish as well.

To Every Mother is the debut CD from Catholic singer/songwriter Mary Donahue. Donahue has been inspiring families these last few years by concerts and television appearances. The secret is her angelic vocals and the mixture of mesmerizing music and the poignant message of her ministry. Donahue has a similar style to Gretchen Harris, Susan Wood, or Donna Lee. The CD is held together with a common theme of mothers. “Halleluiah Lullaby” “Song Of Promise," and “Sing Of Mary” are geared to praise the motherhood of Mary, Mother of God. “We Cherish You” is a precious song about adopted children and how the adoptive parents feel about them. In this song Donahue shares vocals with Tim Doering as he sing the father’s part. One of the most powerful messages from the CD comes from the song “Never be The Same.” This song is sung by a mother who has aborted her child and later realizes what she has done. The cries of bitter anguish and forgiveness will touch your heart. Donahue was asked to write a song for a Homeschool Conference based on Pope John Paul II's encyclical "Familiaris Consortio." The song is called “One Family At A Time.” In it we are called as parents of children to teach, train, guide, and instruct the lives entrusted to us toward the light of Christ. One other Mother that Donahue has found inspiration in is Mother Teresa. “A Prayer Of Mother Teresa,” is inspired by her prayer “Jesus, teach me to love as you love.” To Every Mother is a CD that offers a message of hope and healing to all mothers.
