“Everything and Nothing” is the result of 4 long years of writing and recording, says Joe Hand. “It is without question the best recording I have ever done, with the best songs I've ever written. Though it is a little more serious in subject matter than my older work, it's an accurate reflection of where I've been over the past 4 years, and where I'm at now. “

”Each song has a little blurb about it before the lyrics on the liner notes. But I'd like to say something here about the title track, ‘Everything and Nothing’. September 11th, 2001 still haunts me. I did not know anyone who died that day, but it didn't matter. I had nightmares for weeks afterwards.”

“In our time of greatest sorrow, many of our religious leaders did little to comfort us. Some even said we deserved the destruction of that day and worse, because of our sins. Well, that's wrong (If you need any proof, reread the story of Job). Last I checked, Jesus paid back our sins with the of His only Son, Jesus. One sacrifice, for the sins of the whole world.”

“Friends who were at ground zero spoke about how little was left of the human remains. Everything was reduced to a giant pile of dust. So here were my questions to the Lord. ‘If we are dust, then how could you love us so much? How can you know us before you formed us in our mother's womb, yet allow us to be reduced to dust in an instant? How can our hairs be counted while thousands fall in minutes?”

“The answer was another great riddle from the Lord. We mean everything to Him. He loves us so much that He sent his only Son Jesus to die a horrible on the cross for our sins and the sins of the whole world. Yet in our human state, we are also nothing more than common elements: dust somehow endowed with a very fragile existence. I will be meditating on that mystery for the rest of my life. To Him, we are at the same time ‘Everything and Nothing’."

“After writing the song, my nightmares ceased. May that song and all the songs on my cd bring you peace, comfort, healing, and more importantly bring you closer to the Lord Jesus.”

Joe Hand's new CD is called Everything and Nothing. The theme comes from scripture and is most comforting in these troubling times. Joe Hand has been making CDs for years and is known as a praise and worship or contemporary Christian artist. With the new CD, Hand has stretched out from that “Life On The Rock” mode and developed a newer and more powerful one that is sure to be pleasing to God and to all listeners no matter what age or style they enjoy. Long time fans will not be disappointed and new ones will emerge. “Everything and Nothing” starts in an impressive way with the rockin' song, “I Desire Mercy.” This is a song that Hand has been performing in concerts for some time. It reminds us of a phase that Jesus uses in two different places in scripture. He ate with the sinners and unclean, and yet, are we ever seen with anyone outside of the "in" crowd? Scott Goudeau is awesome with the guitar here and his playing is heard throughout the CD. He is a great plus for the recording. Another favorite is “Prince Of Broken Pieces.” Hand gives us a new title for Jesus and begs Him to make us whole and mend our broken lives. In “He Must Increase,” Hand gives us a glimpse of into the mind of the man who was touched by Jesus while they were both in the womb, John the Baptist. The title track, “Everything and Nothing,” is a bitter reminder of those who lost their lives on 9/11. Hand tells us that we are made of dust (Nothing) and yet God knows every hair on our head (Everything). It is interesting that this sentiment is echoed in “Empty,” a song about how God uses our lowest point to fill us with His Spirit if we let Him. There is still plenty of p&w songs here with “I Want To Worship,” “Be My Vision,’ and “Rise Again.” After a four-year break from the studio, let's hope Joe Hand doesn't wait so long again!
