July 2001 -
Choice- The Right
To Murder?
It's
July--the month to remember the anniversary of America's
independence. Many of our forefathers fought for us to have
rights and freedoms, and many of this freedoms are slowly
being taken away. The Nativity scene that I remember being
outside my hometown city hall on Christmas day is gone. Prayer
in public places is now illegal. The Ten Commandments are not
allowed in courtrooms across the land. Would our forefathers
have wanted it this way? Even 40 years ago this would sound
like some sick form of science fiction.
The idea of rights has been twisted and turned into something evil.
The strong have
them while the weak suffer. This is most prominent when it
comes to the unborn. They have none! We can barely pass
a law that convicts someone for injuring or killing the unborn
child of a pregnant woman. Something tells me that will be overturned in some
court down the road (it was in Paris recently, where a drunk hit a pregnant woman.)
Abortion is
strangling America. The unborn are not the only victims. The
lie is that when
you have an abortion, it is over and you and the fetus do not
suffer. So many woman have bought the lie. I personally know of women
who believed
it. Many are still suffering the pain of that loss and had to go into
therapy. The worst was a friend in college, Pam. Pam could
make you
laugh in a heartbeat. She was the one who you would want to
invite to
your party, because she sided with you on the music to play
and stories to tell. A year after she had an abortion, Pam took her own
life. WHERE
IS THE CHOICE IN THAT? I miss her...
Thank God for places
like Rachel's Vineyard Ministries. It offers post-abortion
healing retreat weekends.
Rock For Life, has got a
CD out benefits Rachel's Vineyard.
Esther
Project
is
a collection of Christian artists and their songs
that are written to help raise awareness of the post-abortion trauma. The
"Esther Project" highlights mainly women artists, which
should
make the
Lilth Fair people take note. Whereas the Lilth Fair promotes abortion
rights, the "Esther Project" tells the truth behind the lie of
abortion.
The problem with so many talented, mainstream artists promoting
abortion
rights is that you may buy their CDs and never know that part of
your cash is
used to promote the death of the unborn. I personally like the vocals
of Paula Cole or Sara McLachlan, but their politics suck. If
you like Sara's sound, I would suggest you get this CD for a
few of the artist who have that
coffeehouse, female sound. Christine Glass"s
"WaterFall", and Sierra Hart's "Echo Of My Soul" are beautiful tunes
on this CD. The pop song
from Life of Riley, "Pillow For Your Soul," is
another gem in the compilation.
One artist that will stand out on the "Esther Project" is Angela. I
have always
liked her appearances on EWTN's "Life On The Rock." "Young
Boy, Young Girl" is a rock n' roll story of a couple getting too close at
the local
Dairy Queen. Angela sings "...It ain't easy...True
lovers respect each other...There's all the time in the
world...Please don't give
into the
world." Theotrance's "Beatitudes" is a wonderful
version of Christ's words
done to a techno/industrial/dance beat. This song could be
mixed into
any local raves tracks. Very Moby. My
personal favorite of the
Esther
Project
compilation
has got to be HeadNoise's
"Silence". This
reviewer is at a loss for words for this song. In truth--I
cried. The
music may not be everyone's cup of tea--it's punk rock at its best--but
the lyrics deliver the punch! The music is a mix of Crass and Black Flag (or
Flipper), with X-Ray
Spec-type vocals. It's a good mixture. The
lyrics tear at you--first an aborted baby singing, "Mom you hurt
me...you believed
the lie!"--then comes the mother's confession of
killing her
unborn baby. This song will rip at your heart.

While
we are on the subject of life this month, you should also
check out
Julie Carrick's
Kateri.
This CD is full of songs about life, hard decisions and
songs of praise. Her folk-rock approach and sweet, soaring
vocals are inspirational, giving this
album an appeal that is
reminiscent
in sound to early Joni Mitchell.
Julie Carrick is
one of those artists
who is a special find, not just for her music but for her
insights as
well. The title track, "Kateri" makes a powerful and
positive statement about adoption.
"God you gave me the very best you had to give...a child
destined to
live. This gift of yours was not for me alone...I was simply chosen to
take her home..." The song "Mother Earth, The
Father's Gift" is
also pro-life. "Be a hero save a whale, but save a baby
human and you
will find yourself in jail." How true! Julie's
velvet-soft croon melts
even the hardest of hearts with scriptural messages about
everyday life
in songs like, "Who'll Cast The First Stone," or "Where
Are You?". "Be Still"
is a pop song with a message--know that you must trust Jesus.
