CELTIC CATHOLIC MUSICIANS
FOCUS NEW CD TO JESUS
-by Jeff Burson
Maple Ridge, CA
( CatholicMuiscnetwork.com) - One of the
Catholic music's most popular Celtic Christian recording and
performing groups The Carpenter's Son has taken a break from
their 2004 concert schedule to return to the studio to
complete a much anticipated second album release.
Following their
successful debut album "Warrior Of The Cross" in 2001, this
new full album release
It's About Time It's About Jesus
promises to edify the listener with the same energy, spirit,
haunting lyrics and melodies - and rich intoxicating vocal
arrangements that have come to be the trademark of The
Carpenter's Son sound. The album contains 13 all new
original songs including 3 Christmas songs - one of which is
a very beautiful and unique original arrangement of Silent
Night.
The album
It's About Time It's About Jesus is scheduled for
release just in time for Christmas.
“Just so you know, we didn’t sit down and say, ‘Well, it’s
time to make another album, let’s write a bunch of tunes’ –
normally most of the songs/lyrics we write are inspired
when/how the spirit moves us.” says Carpenter’s Son lead,
Patrick Ceaser. “Recording and producing this album has been
a tremendously joy filled process for all of us involved. It
basically took us 4 months start to finish.”
This was quite a
feat since the first album,
Warrior Of The Cross, had taken
3 years to pull together due to membership changes and work
schedules. Ceaser explains: “Near the end of the first
album, we changed membership drastically – and within one or
two months we had replaced 4 out of 6 members – and redid
all the tracks with the new members. The original founding
members, Tim Renaud and I, were the only two that remained.
Tim’s younger sister Julie had been singing with Tim and I
in our church choir – and it seemed like a great fit to ask
her to join for vocals. Rosie Carver, who had played fiddle
tracks on the first album agreed to stay on. Natalie
Rutherford joined us playing all the penny whistle and flute
tracks as well as some lead and backing vocals. Rounding out
the team is Vince Renaud, Tim and Julie’s older brother
(there are 6 brothers and 2 sisters in that family, by the
way) as the drummer. This rounds out the full group that we
still have today. And the real joy about recording and
producing
It's About Time It's About Jesus was that all
these members were key in the development and arrangement of
these songs.”
There is more of a
Celtic earthy folk feel to most of the songs on It’s About
Time than the first CD. “We wanted to have a real natural
sound to many of the songs – as if we were standing in your
living room and singing directly to you – it’s more intimate
that way,” says Ceaser, ”and I think, in the end, much more
edifying. In particular, I believe you’ll hear this intimacy
conveyed in the songs ‘Now I Lay Me Down’, ‘Wheel Of Life’
and ‘Goodbye’.”
Ceaser jokes
that the title of the new CD comes the group saying how
“it’s about time” they put out another album since the last
one was released in 2001. But in seriousness Ceaser says,
“The title is meant to mean that it’s about time we stopped
focusing all our resources and energy on things that don’t
matter in the eternal scheme of things – and start focusing
on Jesus – isn’t it about time that we got back to Jesus? I
think there is a message of God’s forgiveness to all, of
Jesus being there for you – for you personally – you need
but to reach out; I think there is a message of emptying
yourself of all worldly things and filling yourself up with
attributes and heavenly graces that will not pass away – but
will be your treasures stored up in heaven."
"My hope is that
anyone who hears the music on
It's About Time It's About Jesus will be blessed in
some way that draws them closer to the love of God and
saving grace of Jesus our savior – and we wish you all great
peace and joy in your lives and hope that the music God has
given us in this album blesses you and those you share it
with."
