John Debney

With a full plate of composing and conducting projects, award-winning composer John Debney is one of the busiest and most capable musicians in Hollywood. To his success, Debney utilizes both his classical training and a strong knowledge of contemporary sounds in order to easily adapt to any assignment.

John has just finished scoring Mel Gibson's controversial biblical epic, PASSION OF THE CHRIST. He is also currently working on Disney's PRINCESS DIARIES II and Universal's RAISING HELEN starring Kate Hudson and produced by Garry Marshall. Earlier last year, John scored the comedy blockbuster BRUCE ALMIGHTY starring Jim Carrey and directed by Tom (LIAR, LIAR) Shadyak.

Other recent projects include WELCOME TO MOOSEPORT starring Gene Hackman and Ray Romano, ELF starring Will Ferrell and THE HOT CHICK starring Rob Schneider. John's other projects included SPY KIDS II: ISLAND OF LOST DREAMS, THE PRINCESS DIARIES, THE TUXEDO, THE SCORPION KING, DRAGONFLY, Disney's SNOW DOGS and JIMMY NEUTRON: BOY GENIUS.

Debney was involved with two of the biggest hits of 1997. One being the Jim Carrey comic bockbuster LIAR LIAR (which has grossed over $300 million worldwide), directed by Tom Shadyac. That same year, Debney scored Columbia Pictures/Mandalay Entertainment's horror thriller I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER with a screenplay by Kevin Williamson, whose previous project was the mega-hit SCREAM. The film starred Jennifer Love Hewitt (PARTY OF FIVE) and Sarah Michelle Gellar (BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER) and was directed by Jim Gillespie.

In addition to his composing projects, Debney has embarked on a series of recordings of classic film scores for Varese Sarabande records, conducting works like SUPERMAN, THE SEVENTH VOYAGE OF SINBAD, TITANIC, BACK TO THE FUTURE and SOMEWHERE IN TIME with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.
